Containerized applications and migrated workloads to Amazon ECS Fargate
CricClubs is a global sports-technology company specialized in cricket league and tournament management. The platform offers a comprehensive digital solution such as league/tournament management, team and player registration, live scoring, player and team statistics, fixtures scheduling, match results, and web/mobile portals for players, teams, and fans. In addition, CricClubs provides live-streaming capabilities, custom apparel and cricket equipment, and other value-added services such as LED scoreboards and academy management enabling a full-stack offering for clubs, leagues, academies, and cricket associations. CricClubs has a wide global presence, as its platform serves leagues across more than 50–57 countries, supporting tens of thousands of leagues/tournaments, and millions of players, clubs, and fans.

The Challenge
CricClubs application was running entirely on EC2 instances with tightly coupled services, leading to high infrastructure management overhead, manual scaling, and complex deployments. The platform experienced unpredictable traffic spikes during live matches and tournaments, creating performance bottlenecks and risk of downtime. Deployment processes were partially manual, increasing release time and human error. Security controls needed strengthening with centralized secret management and stricter IAM boundaries. Observability was limited, with distributed logs and reactive monitoring, making incident response slower and troubleshooting complex. Additionally, managing OS patching, scaling, and environment consistency across DEV, UAT, and PROD requires significant operational effort.
Our Solution
We modernized the architecture by containerizing applications and migrating workloads to Amazon ECS Fargate, eliminating EC2 infrastructure management and enabling auto-scaling based on real-time demand. We implemented a secure VPC-based architecture with private subnets for backend services and ALB for controlled public access. CI/CD pipelines were automated using AWS CodePipeline and CodeBuild, integrating security scans and automated deployments to reduce manual intervention. Secrets were centralized using AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store and Secrets Manager with IAM role-based access, ensuring zero hard-coded credentials. High availability was implemented using Multi-AZ RDS/Aurora, ECS service auto-recovery, and ElastiCache for performance optimization. Monitoring and logging were centralized using CloudWatch, OpenSearch, and SNS alerts to enable proactive incident detection and faster resolution.
Results
The new architecture significantly improved scalability and reliability, enabling the platform to handle peak live-match traffic with 99.9%+ uptime. Deployment time was reduced from hours to minutes through fully automated CI/CD pipelines. Infrastructure costs were optimized through on-demand container scaling and right-sized resources. Security posture improved with least-privilege IAM, encrypted secret storage, and continuous vulnerability scanning. Operational efficiency increased due to reduced infrastructure management overhead, improved observability, faster incident response, and proactive monitoring. Modernization positioned CricClubs with a scalable, secure, and cloud-native foundation to support continued global growth.
