The Challenge

CricClubs supports a global cricket community across thousands of leagues, capturing granular ball-by-ball statistics and full match footage for every fixture. The value of that data was locked behind manual interpretation: turning a detailed scorecard into a concise narrative that players, coaches, and spectators could act on required human write-ups, which could not scale with match volume across time zones and seasons.

At the same time, the engineering organisation faced growing pressure to deliver new platform capabilities at pace. Feature velocity, code quality, and maintainability were competing priorities, and the team needed leverage rather than headcount.

Our Solution

AxiomIO designed and delivered an AI capability layer for the CricClubs platform, built on the Anthropic API with a deliberate multi-model architecture:

  • Claude Opus 4.8 (high-reasoning mode) for complex match narratives requiring deep contextual analysis of performance trends, turning points, and player contributions.
  • Claude Sonnet 5 as the balanced workhorse for standard scorecard summarisation across the fixture catalogue.
  • Claude Haiku 4.5 for low-latency, high-volume generation during peak match windows, keeping cost and response times predictable at scale.

Structured match statistics are transformed into prompt-optimised context, routed to the appropriate model tier based on complexity and load, and returned as concise, consistently formatted insights surfaced directly in the CricClubs experience.

In parallel, AxiomIO enabled the CricClubs engineering team to adopt Claude Code as a daily development practice — spanning code generation, large-scale refactoring, debugging, and performance optimisation — with working patterns and guardrails established for consistent, reviewable output.

This engagement extends the AWS-based on-demand highlight-generation pipeline AxiomIO previously delivered for CricClubs, consolidating media and AI capability on a single governed cloud foundation.

Results

Match summarisation is now fully automated. Detailed statistics are converted into clear, readable insights the moment a match concludes, removing manual write-ups entirely and delivering a consistent standard of narrative quality across every fixture on the platform.

Players, coaches, and spectators receive context — not just numbers — improving engagement and the perceived depth of the product. The tiered model architecture keeps generation costs controlled while sustaining performance during peak concurrency.

On the engineering side, Claude Code has measurably accelerated feature delivery. Development cycles are shorter, refactoring and debugging effort has been reduced, and code maintainability has improved — allowing the team to expand platform capability without expanding the team.
